Equine Assisted Therapy
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) offers significant results in a shorter period of time due to the experiential nature of interacting with horses.
EAP is particularly effective for those who feel "stuck" in traditional therapy, or for whom traditional therapy is not effective or appropriate.
Areas of specialization at Horse Sense include:
-
Youth & Adolescent Issues, including ADD/ADHD, ODD, Anger Management and other at-risk behaviors
- Family Issues, including Parenting, Blended Families & Addiction/Recovery
- Anxiety & Depression
- Autism/Asperger's
- Grief & Loss, including Divorce, Loss of Employment, and those diagnosed with Chronic Illness such as RA, MS or Chronic Fatigue.
- PTSD/Trauma, including Veterans and those returning from active duty, those who've experienced from physical abuse, emotional abuse or sexual abuse.
“I think this experience was more valuable than any of the regular therapy sessions because the metaphors were clearer and I felt the staff [i.e., the horses] gave more feedback.” --S.S
What can I expect in a session?
All sessions take place on the ground with a licensed mental health professional, an equine specialist and one or more horses. For individual clients, we recommend a minimum of six sessions, and anticipate meeting with clients between eight-twelve times, depending on the goals.
What are pricing/payment options?
A standard individual 50-minute session is $130. We accept a variety of payment types; please call our office to speak to someone who can answer your questions.
For private insurance, we provide you with the necessary paperwork to be reimbursed by your insurance company. We encourage you to contact your insurance carrier before your first visit, and to be an informed consumer. To be an informed consumer, please download and review the Advocating for Services document prior to calling your company.
“During activities the horses would express my feelings and I was able to see another being deal with them.” --Emma C.H
