Family Issues & Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

Things not quite right at home? Want help?

Family Page PictureFamily issues that Horse Sense can help with include  remarriages, school problems, & divorce. We also can assist with transitions (i.e. birth of a child, child moving out of the home, etc.) & cultural problems. Any of these issues can cause a breakdown in communication, cause anxiety, increase stress levels, and create feelings of helpless, frustration, & fear.

"These sessions gave us the time and space to be together in a supportive, understanding and encouraging environment." --L.L.

How is EAP especially helpful for families?

EAP is experiential method, which means working with horses that everything during the session is in the here and now. This therapeutic approach is used with individuals, youth, couples and families. Participants learn about themselves and others by participating in activities with the horses, and then processing (or discussing) feelings, behaviors, and patterns. EAP can help address both verbal and non-verbal communication, expressing feelings, coping skills, confidence levels, self-esteem, teamwork and relationship issues.

What kind of EAP is offered at Horse Sense?

At Horse Sense of the Carolinas, we offer Equine Assisted Psychotherapy utilizing the EAGALA model. EAGALA (the Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning Association) is an international organization that provides training and certification in this field, as well as establishes standards of practice, ethics, and safety. Learn more about it at EAGALA.org.

“We learned to work together with our parenting skills and to support each person’s ability and strengths. Our child has become more verbal, he participates more with the family and other child. He can be more of a child.” --V.J.A
